In this Sunday’s service we remembered and lamented Tamar, daughter of David, whose story is found in 2 Samuel 13. Through her, we remembered and lamented our own stories and connections to sexualized violence. After a healing ritual of lament songs and candle-lighting, we looked toward hope. We at JSMC are a community that ends the silence surrounding sexual abuse and violence. We are a community that walks with all who are healing – both survivors and perpetrators. We are compassionate witnesses doing hope.
The first sound file contains a definition and facts of sexualized violence. Jenna Eshleman speaks first, followed by Pastor Carmen.
The second part begins with a poem about Tamar, read by Abby Moyer, and is followed by words on Lament
Compassionate Witnesses Doing Hope: Tom Horst, congregation member and licensed counselor, speaks along with Pastor Carmen.
